The Magic Of Preloved Luxury Fashion

I like the idea that life tells us a story. Every person is a teacher and every situation leads us to another path that will bring us to the next station. I like the idea that you look at strangers and wonder about their life stories, about their past concerns and their future dreams. I like to get to know people in my mind and create their very own history.

This is why I love wearing preloved vintage clothing. I just put on a coat of a stranger and I am wearing a facet of a different life. When I unpacked my preloved woolen Chanel coat, I thought about the woman who was wearing it before. I imagined her thoughts, wishes, concerns, daily struggles and aspirations. I see the woman in front of me and I am wrapped in romance. This coat has its very own history.

The other great thing about vintage clothing is the magic that suddenly surrounds you. People ask ‘Wow, where did you get that from?’, ‘I have never seen something like that around here’ or ‘Is it still available?’

No, it’s not available all around the globe because it is not ‘fast fashion’. This cloth is not off-the-rack and manufactured at the lowest price possible. And no, I don’t want to buy the same thing in three different colors and five styles, only to throw the stuff into the garbage next season. This cloth is unique and it is meant to last.

The person who acquired it in the first place might have owned it for two years or even a decade – who knows? Maybe this person is a great painter now, or the editor of a renowned fashion magazine. Maybe I am wearing the coat of an amazing female bartender or a shop owner, and I run into her twice a year.

That’s the wonderful thing behind life’s storytelling: The ripples are always in motion and the dots will connect at some point. Lean back and enjoy – you never know what is already spinning around you at this very moment.
