Winter Is Coming - How To Stay Moisturized

Although we love cozy winter days, our skin can really suffer in this cold season. “Your body is your home for this life – you cannot leave it, so you should care about it”, said a wise Danish lady (also known as Katja’s lovely mum).

It is important to nourish every part of your body due to the low humidity levels. Here are our favorite tips to stay moisturized and to glow from head to toe!

Face

Use a moisturizing face cream two times a day – it forms a barrier that keeps the moisture in your skin. Additionally, you should apply concentrated moisturizer on super dry areas. I use Clinique's Moisture Surge Hydrating Supercharged Concentrate which hydrates the skin with a 179 % moisture boost.

My favorite facial cream is the silky Hydra-Essentiel cream by Clarins. It plumps thirsty skin with moisture and protects it against heat, cold and temperature changes. I use it in the morning and in the evening.

Tip: Avoid moisturizers with petroleum-based ingredients. If you have sensitive skin, you should use a product without fragrances.

You can also create your own mask: Check out your kitchen and mix moisturizing foods such as honey, yoghurt and avocados. Apply the paste on your skin, let it sink for 10-15 minutes and rinse it off gently. Here are more tips for effective DIY masks.

Body

Yes, it feels like heaven when you shower for 40 minutes in the hottest steam. However, the heat affects the lipid layer of your skin which holds in the moisture. Turn down the temperature and shower as quick as possible – otherwise your skin dries out.

When you take a long walk in the shining winter sun, do not forget the sunscreen. The sun has the same damaging affects as always!

Hands and Feet

Apply moisturizing lotion on your hands and feet before going to sleep. Then slip into cotton gloves and socks – the moisture will sink in until morning.

Keep in mind: Lukewarm water keeps the natural protection of the skin intact. Turn the temperature down when you wash your hands!

Hair

Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. I use Moroccanoil’s Hydration Collection with vitamin A & E and antioxidant-rich argan oil. It keeps your hair smooth and elastic, preventing hair breakage.

Additionally, I use a leave-in treatment at least once a week to protect my hair. My favorite product is Moroccanoil's Treatment Original, which leaves you with nourished and smooth hair.

Extra tips for home & work

Install a humidifier in your bedroom: It moisturizes the air while you are asleep and keeps your skin smooth.

Last but not least: Although you are not that thirsty, you have to drink a lot of water and tea these days! Your skin needs hydration. Put a big water bottle on your desk and make sure you have at least refilled it one time before leaving the office!

We wish you a moisturized, fresh week - full of laughter, smiles and happiness!

Love,

Katja & Andrea
